ThinApp

ThinApp

VMware ThinApp is an agentless virtualization solution that isolates applications from the underlying operating systems to eliminate conflicts and simplify the management and deployment of applications.

OS migrations

You can perform quick migration of legacy applications to Windows 7 or Windows 8 without having to code, test and certify again. The ability to run faster deployments with less verification activities implies that enterprise applications are ready for use in less time, while the downtime and risks for the company are reduced to a minimum.

For added simplicity, you can automatically convert into ThinApp packages also installed applications using silent installation. And if you have already created with ThinApp packaged applications for use with XP or other versions of the Windows operating system, you can easily convert them to Windows format with Relink ThinApp ThinApp function.

Application Isolation

With ThinApp, you can combine a 32 or 64-bit and its settings into a single executable file into .MSI or .EXE format to be distributed in different Windows operating environments . These virtual applications are isolated from each other and run independently without changes to the underlying operating system, so you eliminate conflicts between applications and between the application and the operating system.

The isolated ThinApp applications run in a virtual “bubble” in the restricted user account without modifying the host. Because applications run independently, it is possible to deploy Office 97, 2003, 2007, Internet Explorer, and .NET or custom applications on the same operating system without conflicts.

Server consolidation

The traditional IT model of an application for each server requires dedicated hardware for specific applications that can not coexist, both for technical reasons and for the dubious actual data isolation capabilities. VMware ThinApp eliminates silos of applications to make better use of existing resources, making it easier to deploy and manage applications.

Safety

In many areas we resort to the PC block to meet regulatory and compliance requirements. With ThinApp, applications can be run in restricted user account on locked PC without making changes to the system or undermine security policies. ThinApp does not have any code to the kernel mode, so it is not able to violate the policy of the group of machines applied to user accounts. This makes sure the implementation of virtualized packages in environments where security and stability are essential.

In addition, the guidelines for the Microsoft Security recommend purchasing solutions in user mode to reduce the risk and extent of vulnerabilities for security. Since ThinApp works entirely in user mode, it can not grant permissions to the application level to the devices on the machine, such as the registry or the actual file systems, network devices, printers and so on. This will prevent unintentional policy violations. Device drivers can not compromise the safety of the machine, or cause system failures.

Mobility

Whether they are away from home or office, users need a reliable and flexible application access from virtually any computer to which they have access , including public PC and hotels. With ThinApp no need to install software or device drivers and do not need administrator rights. Applications run directly on portable storage devices such as flash drives.
